Being healthy should be a goal in itself, but it’s not always easy when you have so many other obligations to meet and tasks to accomplish. Seems like there is always something else that needs to be done. But taking care of your health is important. You become your own greatest treasure as you learn to take care of yourself in order to become the best healthiest you!

Tips to keep you healthy for life

  • Don’t smoke. For help on how to quit smoking, visit www.4woman.gov/quitsmoking.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Move more. Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise as many days as you can.
  • Eat a variety of foods for a healthy diet.
  • Get enough calcium and vitamin D every day.
  • Drink alcohol in moderation. Learn the signs of alcohol misuse at www.familydoctor.org; get help at www.collegedrinkingprevention.gov/links/help.aspx.
  • Don’t use illegal drugs or misuse medication.
  • Talk to your health care provider about any health concerns or issues you may have.
  • Get routine exams and screenings. Check out www.womenshealth.gov for the most recent recommendations.
  • Make sure you get all necessary vaccinations.
  • Make some time for yourself; try to reduce the amount of stress in your life.
  • Sleep well. Try to get seven to nine hours of sleep every night.
  • Apply sunscreen every day and avoid the sun during midday when its rays are strongest.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Wear a seatbelt and drive safely.
  • Take a multivitamin with 400 mcg of folic acid every day!
