Community agencies and
leaders can play an important role in saving the lives of
babies.
Folic acid, a B vitamin, when taken
before and in the earliest stages of pregnancy, can prevent
up to 70% of a group of serious, sometimes life-threatening
birth defects, called neural
tube defects (NTDs). Since more than
50% of all pregnancies are not planned, it is vital that
the folic acid message gets to all women long before they
they become pregnant. Encourage your agency to spread the
folic acid message.
How can my organization help?
